I started working on this game in november 2008. Back then, it was supposed to be a flash port of Tetra Master, the card mini-game in Final Fantasy 9, but halfway during the development, I thought "hey, why not spice it up and make my own game?" and so Ethereal Masters was born. I'd like to think it's a bit more original. Also, I would like to thank Ryan "Rtil" Miller for letting me use his work for the cards. I could never have done it alone, or anyway it wouldn't have looked nearly as good =P

You play as a newcomer in the Tournament whose goal is to rise to the rank of Champion. The gameplay is very similar to that of Tetra Master; you and your opponent get five cards which you must place on a 4x4 board. You can attack and capture the other player's cards depending on where they're placed and their attack and defense power. At the end of each round, the player who has the most cards in his possession wins. You can get new cards throughout the game and gain experience to make them stronger. The rules are detailed in the tutorial.

I hope you have as much fun with this game as I had making it. Good luck!

Edit: Now licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License. Even if I forbid you to post it elsewhere, you still would, wouldn't you? But that's fine, as so far I got 20 times more views outside of NG than in and the in-game ads still count ;D So feel free to download this game and post it on your site, as long as you keep the ads and copyright claim intact.

Just played this again and it's actually quite fun, must say! I'm looking forward to seeing what the second one will be like.

I think a little "type superiority diagram", like the one in the tutorial, would be helpful somewhere when you're playing.

Based after a very, very brief playthrough of this game, I'd say, this game's got potential. I love the little unique cards and the wide amount of strategy that can be put into it. The rules can be a bit confusing at times but once you get stuck into it, it's very fun.

I actually really like it. Nice game and keep the awesome work up. :D

thanks! and in retrospect, I admit it's a bit hard to understand at first (and repetitive), especially for a flash game. I won't do the same mistake twice.
